So... [May. 26th, 2008|02:19 pm]

I got PhD funding!

I didn't feel the overwhelming, adrenaline-fuelled excitement that I thought I might - probably because i was still in bed and half-asleep when i got the call from the guy in Trinity - but I do feel something even better: a huge sense of RELIEF that I have a life-plan for the next three or so years.

The best thing is not having to go through the horrendous fear and loathing of looking for a job after this Masters is done. Horrific flashbacks of my last 'job' haunted me as i updated my CV the other night. But now I can go back to Dublin, arse around for the summer, and then start getting *paid* to arse around from October! Whilst carrying out profoundly important and deeply significant research into migrant labour-market integration as well, of course...

Allow me to reiterate myself: HOORAY!

Re: What a waste of tax payers money!

It's Trinity's OWN money you prick!
So at best it's a waste of alumni money.
Luckily for us, you're not an alumnus.
(We wouldn't have you anyway.)

Re: What a waste of tax payers money!

I believe Trinity is primarily financed by government subvention, so anything they choose to spend their money on increases the burden placed on the taxpayer, in this case you and your pointless arsing about.

Is it wise coming back to the home of all these hate-mailers?
I'd say they're sharpening their spikes as we speak!

Re: congrats...

no, didn't get Gov of Irl thing- it's the same as the Ussher fellowship in monetary terms (€16k plus fees for 3 yrs). the TCD one has fewer rules attached though- you have more freedom to change your project as you go along (without seeking permission), and it requires no biannual update reports. could reapply for Gov of Irl next yr (but you can't hold both at the same time, obviously.)

hate-mailers be damned!
I can't wait to sign myself Dr. Corrigan, and irritate them even more!! muhahhaa...

Excellent news. Working doesn't quite suck as much as I was worried it might, but then perhaps I've been blessed.

In other news, a room is coming up in our place at an extremely reasonable rate (€380 in fact - a little too reasonable I hear you say? Well our landlord is very absentee and quite mad so that explains it). Probably available in August or September. And ur our first choice. It's a three bedroom place 15 mins cycle from town, with my mate Keith and myself. Non smoking, smug superiority comes for no extra and cocktail parties occur often and spontaneously. There are also a lot of naked men on the walls. If you're interested give me a text or an interweb message...
